Youthbuild Director Greg Flores Discusses Program

For the past 13 years, I have shared a passion for a program known as YouthBuild. From the time I was hired to help plan and implement a program that would assist dropout youth with GED classes and housing construction, to its present reality of being part of an international movement with new construction technologies in “green building”, the Community Development Corporation of Brownsville/YouthBuild program continues to move forward in creating a pathway for young people toward success.

It is my belief that young people have a passion for learning. It isn’t something that others have to inspire them with; rather, it is something that people have to keep from extinguishing. Beyond the GED classes, housing construction, leadership trainings, counseling, etc., CDCB/YouthBuild passionately tries to establish an experience between the two worlds of young people and adults joined together in a shared community that nourishes common values, as well as differences. This is the buy in for young people: to be an actual, active member of a community – one who counts!

I am very proud to say that a graduate from the CDCB/YouthBuild program is a young adult ready to take on the responsibility to make things go right for themselves, their families, and their community. That is all we can plan for – all we can hope for.
