The following is a letter sent to CDCB from Merary Rios after receiving word that she would be donated a new home. Mrs. Rios is a mother of a family that lost everything during Hurricane Dolly.

I have difficulty finding the exact words to express our gratitude to you for the gift you are giving us. I pray everyday that every single person involved in this project be blessed for their help.
You cannot imagine how this will change our lives after living through moments of anguish and desperation over our living conditions. I struggled to find a solution for my family and me. I felt so much desperation because I was unable to provide for my children. I laid awake at night in the bedroom that we all shared, which was still somewhat functional, worrying about finding a solution to our housing problem.
When I was informed about this project and the donation of the house, I asked myself, “Who in the world in these difficult, economic times has the good will to donate a home to me and my family?” Our immediate reaction – my children and I must say that I did too – literally jumped for joy in gratitude of the donation. This project is not only providing me with shelter for my children, it is giving us a home – a palace! A parent’s dream is to be able to provide for their children with a safe and comfortable place where they may start to write their own history while creating memories. This project is allowing me to fulfill this dream.
I would like to profoundly thank everyone involved for your generous donation. Thank you for helping me build a home whose value is immeasurable for me and my family.
May God bless and protect you all for choosing my family as the recipient of this home.
